Khusbhoo and the TN controversy

Anything uttered by Khushboo is apparently taboo in dear old Tamil Nadu nowadays. All that the once-upon-a-time (Try saying that real rapidly) beloved "diva" said was that educated men should no longer expect their wives to be virgin (Umm... no, I don't think we're talking about Olive Oil here!) Hmm.... am I offended by that statement? Let us examine the evidence... I'm certainly educated..... I am most certainly a man (Oh yes, baby!).... so, it completely amazes me that the entire state went up in arms against her.

I just read about some politico dude in TN saying that the plan to eliminate AIDS is the ABC plan (A for abstinence, B for be faithful and C for condoms.) What a moron! A for abstinence is the most un-natural state of things, while B is fine once you’re married, but what happens before marriage is none of anybody’s business! Only the C part seems to make any sense!

This outlines the hypocrisy prevalent in Indian society; men can do whatever they want, while women aren't supposed to! It also underlines one of the major reasons we're not making an impact on the world scene (Yeah, yeah... talk about servicing Software, but what else?) I mean to say, how on Earth are we ever going to evolve (Intelligent Design folk, please excuse this!) if we keep harping back on medieval philosophies? This whole equating sex with morality is absolutely pathetic. The teachings of the Bhagvad Gita, and the Upanishads have been completely misinterpreted by these zealous asses, who've inserted an entire serving of morality into the picture!

Morality is alright for the zealots of Christianity and Islam, and unfortunately enough Hinduism.... it sure as hell has no place in a "Secular" place, as our wonderful "Secular leaders" keep informing us! My final word on this is: it's the people’s choice, if they choose to be virgins or not. Society hawks should just shut the hell up and preferably go to hell! Morality is nice and dandy, but it sure as hell doesn’t belong in the 21st century (or are we still in 1423?)

  • Well, celebrities as everyone else have the right to an opinion! How about the politicos biasing the younger crowd with all their moralistic preaching? That TN politico is such an ass with his ABC line of talk!

If I have the right to talk or express my views, y dont they let me make a movie n show them how to have sex too ???

  • I'll answer the smoking query of yours in another post. Just wait for that! As far as the sex movie thing is concerned, you are welcome to go ahead and make one (I'll help you market it ;))... see, the thing I'm against is this needless moralistic policing. Who gives them i.e. politicos (who're extremely admirable BTW with so many corruption cases against them!)the right to preach? You've just proved my point!

  • this is wat u say in ur blog -- it's the people’s choice, if they choose to be virgins or not

precisely, no poiltician is goin up to every woman in TN n asking them to be a virgin until they get married.. but, all they say is dont make any public statements about your personal opinions..if Kushboo has the right to, the politicians have the right to protest...all they need is a reason :o)

  • Well I don't know where to begin but here goes. I do not think there is anything particulary controversial as a lot of this seems to happen in Africa and among Blacks in other parts of the world as well when it comes to how to prevent AIDS. I don't think abstinence is an unnatural state of affairs. We have millions of people who go a lifetime with it. And of course you have millions of millions of people(not just zealous Christians and Muslims) who also do it. Remember before the latter half of the 20th century, it was normal and average to be this way. Also, I know Dr. Meg Meeker has a book out titled Epidemic: How Teen Sex is Killing Our Kids. That book is not about STDs but it is about other things that come along with 13 to 19 year olds having sex such as the emotional and physical health. As for men having it one way and women having it the other. More or less you are right, if you are to preach for abstinence then you might as well make sure to talk to men and women. The reason people talk primarily to women is because women are the choosers, since they have one egg and men have a little sperm(pretty simple biology), hence it is man's desire to implant as many women as possible while it is the opposite for women. And as for morality being just for Christian and Islamic zealotts, that makes no sense. I have friends who are Muslims Christins atheists Sikhs who all have a sense of morality and would recommend a certain universal moral code that everyone abides. Now of course, they know when to say things and who will listen. So saying morality doesn't belong in the 21st century seems to be a post modern blight on man as morality is a given because we have free will. This to me is akin to saying you shouldn't tell someone not to commmit suicide. Yes, I am not going to forcefully prevent it, but certainly it is ok for me to morally speak against it. One thing I would agree with you on is that I don't think people should really openly talk about sex either way unless it from a purely medical standpoint. There is no need to do so as this really is a private thing all the way around. That being said, I didn't initate this conversation. Someone in Tamil Nadu initiated this conversation

  • hi buddy...I agree to your point that the ultimate choice is left with the people.Who cares about the past(let the past bury its dead) as long as one is faithful to his or her spouse. Time is the healer. However there is one thing I would like to add, that the oriental culture has greatly influenced countries like India.

  • Ok, let me try and address some of the concerns of both Sarva and Gaurav. Well, as far as the politicians are concerned, they are doing exactly what you say they're not. They're trying to impose their archaic views on the public, which is not their job (what their job is, I don't know... they don't seem to do anything useful anyway!) There is absolutely nothing wrong in SAFE Pre-marital sex. Nothing wrong at all! Not from a moral point of view, and not from a biological point of view.
Well, Gaurav... abstinence is mostly Unnatural! In the rare cases when a person is Asexual, it may be natural... but when I said it's unnatural, I meant in the context of fostering a moral code on sex. And, yes... zealous people of different religious backgrounds are the ones who insist on everyone following their example because their god said so in their religious text. And, to get a glimpse of what I would term as consequences of anything unnatural, take a look at all the pedophile catholic priests. What drives them to that? In a word: Abstinence! (Of course, you do have sickos who’re natural pedophiles, but let’s consider them as outliers in this sampling distribution!)
[BTW: men have an abundance of sperm, that’s the reason why every man tries to emulate Chengiz Khan!]
Well, let me modify my statement about morality though… I should’ve said that morality doesn’t belong in the sphere of pre-marital sex. Moral behavior should only come into play once a person is married, but certainly not before that!
